Permanent Residence Applications

To help us process your application as efficiently as possible, please use the checklist below to ensure that all the information we need is provided with your application. In addition, as part of the points system that will be used to assess your application you will also be required to undertake a short test to determine your knowledge of the history and culture of the Cayman Islands. After your application has been processed, but before consideration by the Caymanian Status and Permanent Residency Board, you will receive a notification inviting you to attend the Department of Immigration on a particular date to undertake the test. If you have any questions concerning your application or the requirements, please contact the Caymanian Status and Permanent Residency Secretariat on 244-2004.

An applicant must submit the following documentation at the time of applying:

Two Completed Application Forms: Please ensure that you have answered each question FULLY and in BLOCK LETTERS

Cover Letter:
We need a letter from you addressed to the Secretary of the Caymanian Status and Permanent Residency Board in which you explain clearly why you wish to become a Permanent Resident. You must also state what occupation you wish to be employed in. This letter should be used also to give examples of your involvement in and contribution to the local community and provide any other information that you consider would support your application.
Application Fee:
When you submit your application you will be required to pay a non-refundable administrative filing fee of CI$250. If the application is successful, you will be required to pay a further fee. The exact amount of this fee will depend on your category of employment as follows:
  1. unskilled: CI$400
  2. skilled: CI$1,500
  3. professional: CI$5,000

For the holder of a Residency and Employment Rights Certificate engaging in a gainful occupation an annual fee will also be payable by his employer equivalent to that payable by a person authorised by a work permit in the same occupation.

Bank References:
Please provide a reference letter from your bank that shows balances of your accounts so that we may assess your ability to support yourself and any dependants if granted Permanent Residence. Be assured, the information you or your bank provides will be treated in the strictest confidence.
Proof of Identity:
So that we may confirm your identity, please provide a copy of the data page from your current passport, which shows your name and photograph.
Photographs:
Please provide one full face and one profile photograph (passport size) of the applicant and each dependant who is included on the application. Please print name and date of birth on reverse side of photographs.
Medical Questionnaire:
You and your spouse (if applicable) must submit a medical questionnaire that has been completed by yourselves (Part 1) and your physician(s) (Part 2). Click here to download the questionnaire. You must also provide the lab report (original) showing the HIV/VDRL test results. Note: the HIV/VDRL tests must be taken within the six months preceding your application.
References:
You must provide three written references from persons (not relatives) who have known you for some years.
Letter of Employment:
Please provide a letter from your employer stating how long you have been employed, in what capacity, and your salary. Please also provide a job letter from your spouse’s employer if he or she is currently working in the Islands and is listed as a dependant on your application.
Property:
Please provide certified copies of the land transfer and land register certificates for any property that you own in the Cayman Islands or, alternatively, a copy of a signed and dated agreement to purchase land in the Cayman Islands.
Birth Certificates:
Please provide certified copy of birth certificate of applicant and certified copies of birth certificates or adoption orders in respect of any dependants.
Paternity Tests:
If you are male, and have included a child or children in your application as dependants and any of those children was born out of wedlock, then you must provide original or certified DNA test results showing you to be the father of the child or children. You must also provide proof that you have full legal custody of the child or children (e.g. notarised copy of the Custody Order).
Marriage Certificate:
If you are married and your spouse is accompanying you, please provide a certified copy of your marriage certificate.
Caymanian Connection:
If you are a male applicant, and you have listed on the application that you are the father of a Caymanain child or children, you must provide with respect to each child: a copy of the child's birth certificate; original or certified DNA test results showing you to be the father of the child; and full contact details for the child's mother.
Police Clearance Certificate:
Please provide a signed police clearance certificate in respect of applicant and each dependant aged fifteen years and older from the last place of residence and issued within six months preceding the date of your application. (Note: applicants and their spouses who are nationals of the United Kingdom and who were resident there immediately prior to coming to the Cayman Islands may submit a sworn affidavit attesting to good character in lieu of a police clearance certificate. United Kingdom nationals who have been living elsewhere must submit a police clearance certificate from that country).

All applicants who claim to have a close Caymanian connection must provide proof of this. For example, the applicant must provide a certified copy of the Caymanian's birth certificate or Caymanian Status certificate and documentary evidence showing how the applicant is related to the Caymanian.

Resume:
Please enclose your resume showing previous employment history and listing your educational qualifications and/or technical skills. Please provide certified copies of any professional or technical qualifications or certifications.
